Whether or not you tow one of them, the same basic towing information applies to every towing application. That`s because what you drag and what you pull with it, no matter where in Utah you shoot, depends mainly on weights and skills. The only way to get fully accurate information about triple towing is to contact the Department of Transportation or the highway patrol offices in your state and any states you plan to cross. The towing vehicle is just as important as the load you are pulling. For example, if you`re towing a boat to the lake, you can usually do it easily with most pickup trucks. However, if you`re planning to tow to one of Utah`s high mountain lakes, you may need the power of a high-performance engine to get you through some of our mountain passes. Each towed vehicle shall be connected, in addition to the coupling hook or normal coupling, by a safety chain, cable or equivalent device.
The safety chain or cable must be securely connected to the chassis, towed vehicle and drawbar of the towing vehicle. The safety chain or cable must be of sufficient material and strength to prevent disconnection of the 2nd vehicle and must not have more free space than is necessary to turn properly. The safety chain or safety rope must be attached to the drawbar of the trailer in such a way as not to fall to the ground and to ensure that the towed vehicle follows the path of the towing vehicle if the vehicles are disengaged. The chain or cable requirement does not apply to semi-trailers equipped with a coupling device consisting of a 5th wheel and a pivot or to a rod trailer. Of course, these resources should only be considered as basic guidelines, as laws change and information can be confused in translation. Be sure to follow Utah`s towing laws. All trailers must have at least functional taillights and brake lights, and all towing trailers must be registered with the Utah Department of Motor Vehicles.
